Sadeghi-Nejad believes that doctors should screen men for erectile dysfunction. "It's an important quality-of-life issue, and the factors that help prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes may help decrease erectile dysfunction," he added. The entire field of PDE investigation has received enormous benefits from recent technological innovations. New tools have helped to overcome some problems that have plagued the field. For example, the high degree of identity among the active sites of many of the PDEs has made them challenging targets for identification of selective inhibitors. This problem is being addressed by the use of high throughput screening and X-ray crystallography. In particular the solution of several PDE catalytic domain crystal structures in the presence of drugs has yielded crucial information on the active sites of these enzymes and allowed rational design to improve inhibitor potency and selectivity. Both high throughput screening and crystallization are now able to be performed efficiently with robotics, further decreasing the cost and increasing the speed with which PDE selective inhibitors can be discovered. Unfortunately, much less effort has gone into identification of activators of PDEs although much of the same technology could be applied. At the functional level the identification of new PDE enzymes has been greatly aided by developments in molecular biology. In particular the publication of the human and mouse genomes has led to the discovery of new PDE isoforms and the identification of variants of previously known ones. These advances have implicated the involvement of PDEs in many pathological conditions. Newer genetic techniques for probing PDE function such as RNA interference and tissue-specific conditional mouse gene disruptions and conditional RNA interference expression should allow for the validation of newly discovered enzymes as targets in specific diseases and forewarn of potential inhibitor side effects. "Even though the study showed that ED does not improve risk prediction beyond the Framingham risk score, an ED assessment can be done at very low cost and presents no risk to patients (unlike other novel CVD screening tests)," said Araujo. "Previous work from our study shows that a simple single question ED measure correlates well with an independent physician's assessment. Therefore, health professionals should consider asking about ED in their older male patients," continued Araujo. "Also, when a patient presents with ED, health professionals should work the patient up for CVD as there may be a window of opportunity for men to improve their health before a CVD event occurs." viagra at canadian pharmacy canadian viagra for sale online All you need to know when buying Viagra Online canadian viagra for sale Prostate enlargement: Bladder neck obstruction due to prostate enlargement has recently been implicated in being associated with varying degrees of ED.
